Alderney is to stage its first literary festival next March, and 10 big name writers have been bagged for the event.
The three day "Facts and Fiction" festival will focus on historical writing and welcome five historians and five historical fiction writers to give talks on their craft.
Organised by Alderney Literary Trust, it is believed to be the first literary festival to combine the two genres nd explore the relationship between them.
Alderney Literary Trust co-founder Isobel Picornell said the idea was to promote the enjoyment of historical fiction in Alderney, and promote Alderney as a destination for authors and fans of historical writing. "The aim is to promote both the enjoyment of historical fiction in Alderney, and the Channel Islands by giving people a chance to meet authors and find out about how they have turned historical fact into literary fiction," she said. "There will also be a panel event which they all attend, which should stimulate interesting debate about the convergence between literary and historical fiction. Our hope is that it will become a two yearly occurrence, and become as successful as the Performing Arts Festival."
