The Lieutenant Governor's States of Alderney representative has resigned.
Islander John Richards stepped down a day after January's States meeting, during which the controversial anti-smoking legislation was passed.
Mr Richards, of Carrier Viront, took on the role two years ago. He confirmed to The Journal that he had resigned but refused to be drawn on his reasons for quitting.
Mr Richards said he would decide whether or not to speak about his resignation in the coming weeks and months. He said quitting had been a "difficult decision".
Sir Norman Browse, President of the States, said the Lieutenant Governor, Sir Fabion Malbon, will appoint Mr Richards's successor after taking any advice he considers he needs.
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
