Not a single extra Southampton flight was added to the May schedule despite a string of events and festivals designed to draw people to the Island during the shoulder month.
Aurigny provided a bare core three flights to Southampton on weekdays and two on Saturday and Sunday in May. For at least eight days at the end of the month there was not a single seat free on any flight from Southampton.
May has been a busy month in Alderney, thanks to the Performing Arts Festival, the start of Wildlife Week, half term and two Bank Holidays plus various sporting events. Accommodation providers reported that booked in guests were left stranded on the mainland.
A spokesman for Aurigny defended the paucity of flights, saying they were doing as agreed. "We operate our services in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding drafted and agreed by both the States of Alderney and Guernsey which sets flight frequency."
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
Tuesday, 23rd February 2024 and would invite anyone who feels they would like Bereavement Counselling to telephone the Bereavement Service Office on 257778 to make a time to meet one of our counsellors.
