Deal sees 70 flights added to Alderney service

Posted Mon 7th December 2015 at 14:55

THE States of Alderney have hammered out a deal with the States of Guernsey to see Aurigny supply more than 70 extra flights to and from the island next year.

Alderney will underwrite the return trips to the tune up to £50,000 - the Island paying out if too few seats are sold on the flights for airline to break even.

The deal was made in a Memorandum of Understanding agreed between the States of Alderney and Treasury and Resources.

The baseline number of flights for the increased service is the core schedule of 2014, when flights varied between two flights on weekdays during the low season, to three return flights to Southampton every day during high season.

The 2016 service will see 35 extra flights and from Guernsey bolted onto it, and 39 extra journeys to Southampton, taking the overall number of rotations back to the figure enjoyed in 2013, before the bumpy transition from Trislanders to Dorniers began.

The States of Alderney has been urging Treasury and Resources, as Aurigny's shareholder, to work with them on a MoU for 18 months.

The recent Scrutiny Committee report on the Security of the Bailiwick's Air Links recommended that the agreement be made a priority.
