Tourism Committee chairman quits

Posted Mon 1st February 2016 at 12:17

States Member Norma Paris has quit as chairman of the Business Development Tourism and Marketing Committee.

She resigned after the business development section of her committee's mandate was removed and placed under the control of the Finance Committee.

The changes were made at a heated session of the Policy and Finance Committee last week.

Mrs Paris has clashed with some other States members over the introduction of the star ratings system for accommodation providers.

She explained: "At Policy and Finance last week it was decided to move the Business Development mandate from my committee to the Finance Committee.

"The mandate for what is left of the BDTM Committee is unclear presently and in the circumstances I felt I had no option but to resign as Chairman."
