The 70th anniversary of the Alderney Homecoming is shaping up to be a day to remember.
Tuesday 15th November marks the momentous day in 1945 that the first boat arrived in Alderney carrying the Island's evacuees.
The day will open at 10am with the unveiling of a plaque at the Court of Alderney. There will be a church service at 11am followed by an invitation only Vin d'Honneur at the Island Hall. There will be a screening of Alderney - The Homecoming at Alderney Cinema at 2.30pm, with readings from school children and a Q&A with film maker Charlie Gauvain afterwards, followed by invitation only tea and cake at the Georgian.
Top of the bill is a musical written by Ray Parkin called An Island Story. Performed by a 30-strong cast, with a live band and backed by the Guernsey Arts Commission, it runs across three nights, and promises to be a sell out (tickets available at the Visitor Information Centre.)
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
Tuesday, 23rd February 2024 and would invite anyone who feels they would like Bereavement Counselling to telephone the Bereavement Service Office on 257778 to make a time to meet one of our counsellors.
