Alderney Sailing Club launched its shipshape new deck last weekend as part of a string of events held to mark its 50th anniversary.
The project was thought up and carried out by club member Ronnie Cairnduff, who says it is now catching the imagination of yachting enthusiasts around the world. He joined founding club member and former Commodore George Baron OBE in ribbon cutting duties, aided by up and coming sailor Michaela Scott, aged 10.
Families, individuals and companies helped fund the sail deck by sponsoring planks - and saw their names subsequently engraved on glass panels. Mr Cairnduff, who designed and created the deck said he was thrilled to see his six month "labour of love" finally completed. "I'm so pleased that it's finished and I'm so pleased that it looks fantastic," he said. "I hope it's going to be a big draw to the Island and it's certainly added a fantastic facility to the sailing club itself. Everyone will be longing to do the old Titanic bit at the bow. It's really been a six month labour of love, but I have enjoyed doing it."
