Election victory for serving States members

Posted Fri 28th November 2014 at 12:18

All serving Alderney States members who put themselves forward for election were voted back in to government at last weekend's poll.

Ian Tugby, Matt Birmingham, Norma Paris and Steve Roberts were all voted back onto the States along with retired Army officer Graham McKinley OBE.

Ian Tugby received the most votes, garnering a 467 share. Matt Birmingham attracted 446 votes, Graham McKinley took 410 and 401 people voted for Norma Paris. Twelve candidates stood in total with Tony Haywood missing out by just four votes to Steve Roberts, who gained 360.

Ian Tugby said he was pleased by the result. "I think it shows that the majority of people are satisfied with the way I've been active in the States and they want the Island to move forward, as I do," he commented.
