St Anne's Church has got its peal back - with bells on!
Last July St Anne's six bells were taken down for the first time in 50 years for refurbishment.
Now those original bells are back in Alderney - along with six newly cast bells that were gifted to the church by an anonymous donor, and a late medieval Sanctus bell donated by St Helen's Church in Ipswich.
A service of dedication was held at St Anne's church and around 110 people attended, including States of Alderney president Stuart Trought, who gave one of the lessons.
Not to be put off by their larger bells being out of commission, some of Alderney's ringing team showcased their skills on handbells - earning appreciative applause. The new church bells, cast at Taylors of Loughborough like the original six, have been inscribed with the Christian names of members of the Bevis family, who are sponsoring them.
Over the past two weeks bell hanging specialists have been carefully hoisting 10 tonnes of galvanised steel girders up through the ceiling of the church and into the belfry to form the new framework to support the bells. The bells themselves - some three tonnes in weight - were then finally hoisted up and fitted onto the frame
