Rod Paris engraves his 1000th tile

Posted Sat 21st December 2013 at 12:30

Pilot turned master engraver Rod Paris is limbering up for what he hopes will be a Christmas rush on personalised pool tiles.

Mr Paris is carving people's names onto tiles to install at what will hopefully be the walls of a new indoor community swimming pool.

Last week saw the thousandth tile roll off his one-man production line - the 999th for Stephen Hocken and the 1000th for his wife Lynda Hocken.

The Hockens, who live in Portugal and have a flat on the Butes, generously donated £1,000 in addition to buying their tiles for £10 each.

Trustee and engraver Rod Paris said: 'We are overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who has contributed to the pool and gym project. We have nearly reached our target of £500,000 and can soon start building.'

Channel Windows, Babbes Advocates, Ronez, Geomarine Guernsey, Beau Sejour Leisure Centre and DHS are among the Guernsey companies offering know-how and free of charge support for the project.
