The Building Development and Control Committee has finally given the go-ahead for shop improvements at Saye Campsite.
Separate applications for the erection of a timber clad wet weather room - and shop alterations were submitted to the planning committee in June.
The application relating to the campsite store proposed 'alterations and extension to the existing shop building to provide café seating area'.
Campsite operator Paul Hayward welcomed the approval but said work would not take place until after this summer season, as the States and campsite operators have to meet up to discuss it after the August break.
Law officers are currently still investigating whether erecting a 15m by 6m laundry, dry room and storage area, and a portable timber clad accommodation unit in the greenbelt, contravenes Alderney law.
"The most important thing for us is that the improvements are ready for next season," said Paul Hayward.
Tent numbers meanwhile, have been down by about 15 compared to last year. Mr Hayward said he expected around 40 tents by the weekend - but last year there were 58. But there are also bigger tents on site and camping 'pods' which accommodate 23 people. 'We get all sorts of comments about the cost and availability of flights,' said Mr Hayward. ' It is definitely a factor in putting people off.' Not everybody though. One group with bikes travelled via Condor to Guernsey and then chartered a Bumblebee boat. The café, he reported, was doing a roaring trade.
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
Tuesday, 23rd February 2024 and would invite anyone who feels they would like Bereavement Counselling to telephone the Bereavement Service Office on 257778 to make a time to meet one of our counsellors.
