States to install relocation officers to boost population

Posted Tue 13th August 2013 at 10:01

The States of Alderney are to put in place a 'relocation officer' to act as a single point of contact for people and businesses who want to move to Alderney.

The appointment is one of a string of measures being instigated by the Alderney Enterprise Group to boost the population and economy.

The specific objective of the Group is to attract ten companies who will employ ten individuals thereby bringing revenue, skills and over a hundred new people to the Island - within the next year.

The Alderney Enterprise Group was set up earlier this year when 19 politicians and business leaders including representatives from Aurigny, convened at the Braye Beach Hotel to hammer out an action plan on how to make Alderney attractive to businesses.

Subset groups were then formed to look at energy, business development, information and technology, each equipped with an designated States member.

Each team has an prepared action plan which are currently being presented to the States for budgetary and resource planning.

States Chief Executive Roy Burke said: "A prospectus will be published detailing the four action plans, identifying the individual team members, objectives and timelines and start the public consultation process where appropriate."

He added: "These are exciting times for the Island and States Members involved in these projects are encouraged by the enthusiasm of this group of Islanders and off Island specialists who have clearly risen to the challenge
