ALDERNEY Week's headline event blazed a trail through the centre of St Anne's this week as Cavalcade Day 2014 kicked off.
Fourteen Treasure Island themed floats, plus a brass band, decorated cars and scores of people in pirate themed costumes joined the procession while hundreds more enjoyed the spectacle.
Miss Alderney sailed by on a float called Bad Latitude and Miss Jersey Battle of Flowers was carried in a vintage blue Bentley.
The parade came to a halt on the Butes for judging with a float covered in paper flowers called Land Ahoy taking top marks - the handiwork of Alderney family, the Benfields.
Barbara Benfield, who runs Alderney's Age Concern - said it had taken around two months to make, with even family who had come over from Australia pitching in. 'Itstarted making the paper flowers for it six weeks ago and began putting it together this week. We're all really pleased with it. The children have loved taking part in it, as they like taking part in everything in Alderney Week. It's the best time of year in Alderney - there's something to do every day, the Island's full of visitors, the weather's great - it's absolutely perfect.'
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
Tuesday, 23rd February 2024 and would invite anyone who feels they would like Bereavement Counselling to telephone the Bereavement Service Office on 257778 to make a time to meet one of our counsellors.
