Dorniers get green light

Posted Wed 4th June 2014 at 11:40

Aurigny got the green light to invest in two second hand Dorniers after the States of Guernsey voted to guarantee a loan for the acquisition.

The States-owned airline is poised to buy two 20-year-old Dornier 228s at a price of around £1m each from a supplier in Portugal and will search for a third to buy or lease.

Mark Darby said Aurigny was "delighted" that the States of Deliberation had elected to support their proposals. "This decision will provide Alderney with a more modern, quieter and faster aircraft to operate its lifeline services and give the airline an opportunity for route development."

The Alderney representatives seized the opportunity to show support for Aurigny's Dornier efforts - and to strongly convey the concerns residents, politicians and second home owners had about future increases to ticket prices, reduced seat availability and the security of the Southampton route.
