Parents of young children have welcomed the news that the States is prepared to allocate £30,000 towards new play equipment for the toddler park.
Mother of two Becca Bohan mounted a campaign for new equipment for the park because of concerns that the existing facilities were not only inadequate but unsafe. The problem was exacerbated when the toddler equipment was uprooted to make way for the new skate park. But Mrs Bohan was informed that there was no cash available to be spent on the toddler park until 2017 and that the old equipment was to be reinstalled in a new fenced off toddler section. She mounted a petition for people to show their support for improvements and more than 200 people signed it. Now, after a States meeting to review the budget for 2014, members have nominally allocated £30,000 to spend on replacement play equipment for the toddler park. They have asked Mrs Bohan, a social worker by profession, to work with them to draw up fully costed plans for improvements to the area. The expenditure still requires approval by the General Services Committee and Treasury and Resources in Guernsey, but Mrs Bohan said she was "absolutely delighted" at the encouraging move.
