Every Alderney household is to be offered superfast broadband next year - giving the Island the fastest average internet speed of all the Channel Islands.
The States is joining up with Guernsey-based telecoms provider Sure, to roll out the upgrade via the existing microwave link, at no extra cost to residents.
The States of Alderney is spending £200,000 from its Economic Development Reserve on the improvements, which it hopes will help give the economy a boost.
Sure will carry out the necessary connection upgrade at not cost to the recipient and provide a free new router if required.
The first households will have access to superfast broadband in the New Year and it is anticipated that the roll out will be complete by the end of the year. The States of Alderney will fund the monthly cost of the upgrade for two years. After that residents can decide whether to continue with it or revert to the older version.
Chris Brock, the States of Alderney's new Business Development Director, has made improving connectivity on the Island his priority since he took up the post a couple of months ago.
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
Tuesday, 23rd February 2024 and would invite anyone who feels they would like Bereavement Counselling to telephone the Bereavement Service Office on 257778 to make a time to meet one of our counsellors.
