Barbara Benfield is honoured

Community champion Barbara Benfield MBE was praised as "an Island icon" in the glowing tribute to her at a vin d'honneur.

Ms Benfield was retiring from her role as Home Help Co-ordinator for the States of Alderney, after nearly 30 years spent caring for the elderly on Alderney.

"I think it's fair to say that none, in her time, has had a more positive effect on this facet of Island life," said President of the States of Alderney, Stuart Trought.
