The world record for bell ringing was smashed in Alderney on Wednesday night as 12 determined ringers rang St Anne's Church peal of bells for 16 hours.
The group, who flew in from all over the UK, rang for two hours more than the previous record.
The ringers, from the Ancient Society of College Youths, rang the Bristol Surprise Maximus method with over 25,000 changes - a feat requiring immense concentration and stamina.
The Church was packed with supporters as they finished the marathon session - some 16 hours and seven minutes - at around 10.45pm. All of them had rung solidly for the 16 hours without taking their hands from the ropes.
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
Tuesday, 23rd February 2024 and would invite anyone who feels they would like Bereavement Counselling to telephone the Bereavement Service Office on 257778 to make a time to meet one of our counsellors.
