Parking limits to be introduced at Braye Common

Posted Mon 6th June 2016 at 13:59

Parking is to be limited to 24 hours at Braye Common.

The trial will be staged in a bid to deter people from leaving their cars indefinitely on land close to Braye Beach.

The idea was tabled at a General Services Committee meeting in response to a report by Norma Paris. The Committee agreed that a disc parking zone restricting parking should be introduced on a trial period.

Mrs Paris said a time limit on parking should keep the area clear for those wishing to use the beach, walk their dogs and visit the nearby shops and restaurants. "My concerns are about the cars parked there on a semi permanent basis," she explained. "Some look on the verge of being derelict and some are for sale. It seems inappropriate that the car park for one of our most beautiful beaches should be used as a second hand car lot." The trial is most likely be started in July, with warning beforehand to give owners a chance to move their cars.
