Alderney set to say "bonjour" to a new ferry service

Alderney could be saying bonjour to a twice monthly passenger sea link with France in April.
The two year trial would see the Victor Hugo come into Alderney on a Friday and Sunday every other week and sail to Dielette. A shuttle service to Cherbourg from Dielette is being considered as part of the scheme.
The States announced the trial, which would run until October, following talks with the General Council of La Manche, which operates the Manche Iles Express. Both parties have agreed in principle to proceed with the trial, subject to final agreement on costs subsidies. The subsidy being asked for is thought to be in the region of £100,000 - a figure not confirmed by Neil Harvey, chairman of Alderney's Policy and Finance Committee. He said: "We are delighted to have the very real prospect of a regular ferry service operating to France by April this year, using an established operator at a fixed level of subsidy for a finite period. The potential for opening up the French market to Alderney for tourism and freight is huge. At the same time we have proposals to expand our sea links with Guernsey and possibly even re-open our maritime link with the UK - these must be given a fair hearing. This States is dedicated to working on the issues that matter to the people of Alderney - growing our economy and developing our transport links."
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
Tuesday, 23rd February 2024 and would invite anyone who feels they would like Bereavement Counselling to telephone the Bereavement Service Office on 257778 to make a time to meet one of our counsellors.
