Strip Club makes blankets for orphans in Tanzania

Posted Mon 27th January 2014 at 11:20

It's a strip club - but with a difference.

The aim of the ladies of Alderney's strip club is not to take off but to cover up - 12 shivering orphans in Tanzania to be precise.

Over the last few months its members, who number around 10 ladies from the Salvation Army and the WI, have been crocheting and knitting 46-inch long strips which were then stitched together and edged to form 12 four foot square blankets.

The blankets have been sent to children in Kagera in Tanzania orphaned through AIDs through the Tumaini Fund. The group knit at home and on Tuesdays at the Salvation Army hall.

Eileen Barnett appealed for people to donate any left over balls of wool so more blankets can be knitted. "These 12 blankets will be going along with the shipment of Ormer House uniforms to Tanzania. Although warm during the day it gets cold at night in Africa, so these blankets will keep 12 children warm.
