Voting made easier for residents

Posted Fri 1st November 2013 at 12:37

Voters will no longer have to re-register themselves every two years, reported Francis Simonet.

In July the States passed a billet item brought by Louis Jean asking chief executive Roy Burke, also the returning officer, to investigate a system whereby voters would not be required to re-register for each States election.

Mr Burke has recommended a continuous roll which is updated every two years to take account of people moving away or having died, combined with a campaign prior to elections to ensure all potential voters are included.

No law changes are necessary and so the new system should be in place in time for the next election in 2014.

Mr Jean thanked States Members for their support on the issue.
