Shipping company Huelin Renouf is halving its Alderney deliveries to just once a week.
The company's last Wednesday delivery will be on April 24th, leaving just the Friday evening delivery from Jersey and Southampton in operation.
The decision came after stalemate set in with the States over whethe they allowed the Huelin Dispatch to discharge cargo after official harbour opening times.
The result is a £2,000 a week loss in harbour fees and fewer fresh deliveries of food to shops.
Huelin Renouf Alderney representative Charles Tarver explained that deliveries to Alderney had become progressively later over recent years - moving from around 5pm to well past 8pm, when the harbour closes.
"As a rule we are not supposed to come in after 8pm," said Mr Tarver. "But it has been getting later and later on a Wednesday, up until 10pm or 11pm. We've been pleading with the port, saying 'Please let us come in'. But understandably they've been getting cheesed off."
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
Tuesday, 23rd February 2024 and would invite anyone who feels they would like Bereavement Counselling to telephone the Bereavement Service Office on 257778 to make a time to meet one of our counsellors.
