Alderney States member Bill Walden was shipped to Guernsey on Friday evening.
Various rumours regarding Mr Walden's whereabouts have circulated in the island since Friday.
However, Mr Walden's wife Mel and the police have said the politician, who sits on Guernsey's Public Services Department, was taken to Guernsey for medical reasons.
Mrs Walden, who runs Bonjour Guesthouse with Mr Walden, said: 'Bill was taken to Guernsey for medical reasons. He is still in hospital at the moment.'
Sergeant Jeff Hill, of Alderney Police, backed up Mrs Walden's claim and rubbished rumours Mr Walden had been arrested before being taken to Guernsey.
He said: 'Mr Walden was taken to Guernsey by boat for medical reasons on Friday evening.
'He was not arrested and no complaint has been received. We will not be making further enquiries.'
Mr Walden was due to declare Alderney Week open on Saturday after winning last year's town crier competition.
However, he pulled out of the 60th anniversary celebrations weeks ago.
Alderney Week organiser Ilona Soane-Sands said: 'Bill sent me an email about three weeks ago to say he had more important things to look after and that he could not dedicate time to the event.'
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
