Fisherman rescued 19 miles off Alderney coast dies in hospital

Posted Mon 30th June 2008 at 15:30

A man has died after becoming ill on a fishing boat 19 miles off the coast of Alderney.

The 44-year-old, who has yet to be named, suffered serious chest pains while on board Margaret K, a Guernsey-registered motor boat.

Alderney lifeboat Roy Barker I was launched from Braye Harbour at 10.48am, shortly after a rescue helicopter was dispatched from England.

The helicopter arrived at the scene at 11am and immediately airlifted the casualty to an English hospital.

Roy Barker I, which carried a St John Ambulance crew member, was back in Braye Harbour at 11.30am.
