A party was held at the Georgian House to celebrate Alderney Animal Welfare Society's 50th birthday.
AAWS members enjoyed champagne and canapes at the bash, which was attended by the body's founder, Margaret Cosby.
Mrs Cosby, 91, travelled from Jersey especially for the event.
She helped set up the AAWS along with Brigadier Noel Cosby, her late husband, in 1958.
Mrs Cosby said: "When I came to Alderney from Jersey, people who knew I was handy with animals brought me a cat with ear mites and the society grew from there."
Brigadier and Mrs Cosby left Alderney in 1980 but the AAWS has continued to support the island?s wildlife.
She said: "I?m very proud the AAWS is still going strong. It's a wonderful organisation and does a lot for all the wonderful pets and wildlife in Alderney."
Outgoing chairman Mike Harrisson praised the impact AAWS had made since it was set up in the late 1950s.
He said: "The Animal Welfare has made a positive impact in the island ever since it was set up and that is testament to the work of Brigadier and Mrs Cosby."
Current chairman Colin Williams revealed £20,000 needs to be raised this year for the body to remain in the black.
He said: "Running the society isn't cheap, especially when you consider we employ a vet and two nurses.
"Our plan is to hold events that will help us raise funds on a regular basis."
