The States has welcomed news that Aurigny is to be given financing to secure a new Dornier - two years ahead of schedule.
Dornier manufacturer RUAG has informed Aurigny that it may be able to supply a new aircraft this summer, after an operator further up in the queue told them that it may have to defer.
Aurigny Chief Executive Mark Darby admitted that despite "an exhaustive search" he has little hope of finding a third second hand Dornier - for back up and peak periods - that is available and suitable for purchase.
Treasury Minister Gavin St Pier told States of Guernsey deputies last month that the Department had agreed to finance the acquisition to the tune of up to £6m, and that he had given Aurigny the green light to start contractual negotiations with the manufacturer.
