Alderney's newest States Member has said he hopes to inject a little "common sense" into the Island's government.
Residents went to the polls on Saturday after a by-election was called to find a replacement for a Member who had stood down because of health reasons.
Alderney-born Steve Roberts, who runs a removals business, attracted 305 votes out of a total of 741. He beat off stiff competition from engineer Les Stewart, who won 276 votes.
Mr Roberts said: I'm surprised and very humbled by the support I've had. And I don't just want to carry my views to the States I want to carry the views of the people who have voted me in. I want to give those views to the States, honestly. People can come to me and talk to me whenever they like.'
'I hope to help create a States that gets on with things that been promised and gets them done a little more quickly.
