Around 50 members of Alderney's emergency services, airport staff and theatre club took part in a disaster exercise at the island's airfield last week.
Exercise Ruby, organised by Chief Airport Fire Officer, Adrian Le Pelley, was designed to test how the island's emergency services perform in response to a major accident.
In the dramatic 'incident', a fully loaded Trislander coming from Guernsey careered off the runway and collided with a car. Sixteen passengers were injured and two people were killed. Their injuries were eye-wateringly realistic thanks to the ministrations of Lisa Bunn, who beforehand at the Courthouse helped create bone breaks, gashes and severed limbs onto volunteer actors. All the emergency crews knew about the incident was that something would happen at the airport at around 7pm. Mr Le Pelley said the exercise had been a success. It is carried out every two years and is statutory under CAA regulations.
The Guernsey Bereavement Service has made three visits to Alderney over the past few months and would like to continue to help you. We are visiting the island again on
Tuesday, 23rd February 2024 and would invite anyone who feels they would like Bereavement Counselling to telephone the Bereavement Service Office on 257778 to make a time to meet one of our counsellors.
